Yogurt Cup Halloween Spider

You have lots of things to do every Halloween. Decorations, costumes for the kids, candy for trick-or-treaters - its a pretty extensive list. Why not get the kids in on the fun and get decorations made at the same time? Kids can help with many different projects so you decorate for the scary holiday. Yogurt cups make it easy to create Halloween spiders that can be created in several different ways. The spiders can crawl along a deck banister, sit on the mantle, or gather in the center of the food table.

Wash and dry a yogurt cup to start the project. You have choices as to the covering for the cup. Black fake fur works great because it easily covers the seams. Cut a circle of the fur, glue it to the bottom of the cup (which will become the top of the spider), then cut a length that will wrap around the cup, and glue it on.

Other choices can include black fabric or even black paper. As with the above design, cut a circle and a wide piece, then glue them to the cup. Make a totally fuzzy spider when you use black pom-poms to cover the yogurt cup instead. Or, wrap the cup and lid with black pipe cleaners. Go around and around the cup with them, gluing them here and there to secure, then do the bottom of the cup as well. After the cup is covered in the chosen black materials use black pipe cleaners to make the spiders legs. Cut each pipe cleaner in half then begin attaching them - four on each side. Make a little bend on one end of each pipe cleaner, to make the foot, then make another bend a few inches up, to create the "knee". Tape or glue the opposite end of the pipe cleaner to the bottom of the spider. This craft can be done with or without the yogurt cup lid. If the lid is there, just tape the pipe cleaner to the lid of the upside-down cup. If there is no lid simply tape or glue the pipe cleaners to the inside of the upside-down cup. After positioning the legs the way you want them the only thing left is to make a face for the spider. Glue on wiggly eyes, but if you dont have any, you can use two red beads. Its up to you if you want a mouth and nose on the spider; the eyes will suffice. However, a nose can be made from a bead, a pom-pom or a small button. A mouth can be made from red felt, foam or even a small piece of red pipe cleaner. Create many of the easy spiders then set them on tables, windowsills, appliances and other places. Theyre freaky, theyre appropriate and they offer you a way to recycle some of those yogurt cups you usually throw away.
